Maxwell Construction is a Detroit-based construction company that specializes in historic renovations. It is led by the father-son team of Calvin and Christian Garfield, who live in the Motor City’s Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood.
Both father and son were born and raised in the city, and they share a love for Detroit and its historic architecture. It is what inspired them to work together.
Calvin began his career in construction while he was in college and eventually went on to become a Detroit city building inspector. Throughout his career with the city he continued to work on side projects across the metro Detroit area, ensuring that he both understood the permitting and compliance side of the business as well as the skilled trades. That experience has given Calvin a discerning eye for quality and a never-ending well of ideas on how to make dreams happen — even on a budget.
Meanwhile, his son, Christian, put himself through college by working on small renovation projects. Christian never expected, however, to make historic home renovation his future. Instead, he earned his B.S. in business administration and went to Boston to work in finance. But he quickly realized his passion for old homes and work with his hands meant he wasn’t destined for a desk. So he returned home in 2012 and together he and Calvin started Maxwell Construction.
Together they are the team — along with a talented group of subcontractors — who will work on your project and become a part of your lives.
